How BRICS Summit can influence outcome of FfD Conference in Addis Ababa

July 2nd, 2015

With the BRICS Summit scheduled for 8-9 July, a few days before the Financing for Development (FfD) Conference in Addis Ababa, BRICS countries have a unique opportunity this year to strengthen their cooperation and relevance as a group by committing to working collectively towards an ambitious FfD outcome.

One of the five priorities of the Presidency of Russian Federation for BRICS 2015 is ‘to Facilitate Multilateral Financial Cooperation and the Reform of the International Financial System’. A key proposal in line with this priority being considered in FfD, which would be the cornerstone of success in Addis Ababa, is establishing a Universal, Intergovernmental Commission on tax matters under the UN to ensure that all developing countries are equal partners in reforming global tax rules and that the UN plays a leading role in international tax cooperation.

The template below (available to freely download and adapt) urges the BRICS countries to play a leadership role at the negotiations in Addis Ababa, using this opportunity to positively impact the trajectory of the current international tax regime and cooperation. We hope to see them make a similar commitment at the Summit next week.
