LONDON – Hunger and malnutrition in childhood will trap almost a billion young people in poverty by 2025, according to a major new campaign, launched today by Britain’s leading development charities and faith groups. ‘Enough Food for Everyone IF’ is the largest coalition of its kind in the UK since Make Poverty History in 2005.

This week more than 100 organisation have joined together to launch the biggest campaign since Make Poverty History. ENOUGH FOOD FOR EVERYONE – IF aims to tackle hunger which grips our world. 1 in 8 people on the planet go to bed hungry every night and more than 2 million children die from malnutrition annually.

CHRISTIAN AID—More than a billion people across the world will go to bed hungry on Saturday, the day the United Nations has designated World Food Day. The growing food crisis, which is leaving millions of people without enough to eat, has inequality at its root. Most markets have plenty of food, yet the price has risen beyond the reach of ordinary people.

Today the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations reported that 925 million people are undernourished in 2010. This is actually a decline from the all-time high of 1.02 billion in 2009. It’s easy to forget, when faced with our own brand of pain in the developed world, that a global recession is the difference between life and death for millions worldwide.
