Steinbrueck Lauds Liechtenstein, Heals Wounds in Tax Dispute

German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck lauded Liechtenstein’s cooperation on tax issues as an “important contribution,” a turnaround in relations between two governments that were locked in a dispute on tax evasion.
An agreement wrapped up by negotiators last week means German tax authorities can gain access to banking information that’s relevant to tax investigations in Liechtenstein, the German Finance Ministry said in a statement today. The standards are set by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
