This is a moment TJN has been waiting for, for a long time. The UK launch of Nicholas Shaxson's flagship book Treasure Islands and the Men who Stole the World. Shaxson has worked closely with TJN in its writing. We are delighted that the Guardian newspaper is running a serialisation of the book, and the first piece, entitled The Truth about Tax Havens, is now live. More to come. Almost exactly one year ago, just before sunset, the strongest earthquake to hit the region in over 200 years struck Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, just outside the capital city, Port-au-Prince. Homes, schools, and government buildings were reduced to rubble. An estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people died and the total damages are estimated between $8 and $14 billion. That’s about 110% of Haiti’s GDP. In 2008 a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan Providence in Western China, killing about 70,000 people.
