US Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) wrote a good op-ed for the Center for Global Development's blog where he discusses the need to improve USAID. From the piece:

FBI Arrests 2 New Jersey Mayors, Rabbis in High-Profile Public Corruption Case

Two New Jersey Mayors, several rabbis, and other public officials were arrested by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation this morning in what is being described by the US Attorney's office as a "two-track federal investigation of public corruption and a high-volume, international money-laundering conspiracy." The mayors of Hoboken and Secaucus, New Jersey, and several rabbis were among at least 30 people arrested today as part of a public corruption and money- laundering investigation by U.S. authorities.

Fujimori Convicted of Bribery, Sentanced to 7.5 Years

Deposed Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori was both convicted and sentanced to 7.5 years in prison by Peru's Supreme Court on Monday for bribery. From Reuters:

Peru's Supreme Court convicted and sentenced former President Alberto Fujimori on Monday to 7 1/2 years in prison for giving a $15 million bribe to his spy chief, the third time he has been convicted since returning from exile in 2007 to face a raft of charges.
